I am Caroline Louise SCOTT and I live at the address stated overleaf where I have lived since October 1990. Before this I used live with my mother at 15 XXXXX road, West Lynn, King's Lynn, and I lived there for about a year. Before this I lived on the Fairstead Estate for about 6 months to a year, at 7 XXXXXXXX XXXXX, and before living there I lived at 15 XXXXXXXX XXXXXX, West Walton Highway, near Wisbech, where I had lived for a number of years. I presently live on my own. My social life usually consists of going to the pubs in King's Lynn Town Centre, usually about once a week. The pubs and clubs I normally use are Chicago’s in Norfolk Street, The Wenns in Saturday Market Place, and L.A’s, which is above Argos. I don't always go out with the same girls when I go out. On the last three or four Friday nights I haven't been working and so I have been able to go out on each Friday night, and I have been to Chicago’s on each occasion. About 8 pm on the evening of Friday 1st March 1991 I was at home at my flat when my friend Anne POWELL came round. I don't know where she lives but she works at the Pizza Gallery, where I also work. After putting my make up on and getting ready the two of us walked to the Wenns Public House arriving between 8.10pm and 8.15pm. The two of us stayed in the Wenns for about an hour and had a couple of orange juices each. Then we left the Wenns we then went to McDonalds in the High Street where we had something to eat, before going on to the Chicago’s public house in Norfolk Street. We got into Chicago’s around 10 pm. I was drinking whisky and orange juices in Chicago’s, whilst my friend Anne had a variety of different drinks. Whilst we were in there I met some other friends, who arrived later than us, Mark Jason, Colin, Clifford and Terry. Mark lives at 13 XXXXXXXX Avenue, but I don't know his surname. Jason is tall with dark hair and was wearing jeans and dark mustard coloured T shirt with a black pattern and buttons and a dark cardigan. I don't know his surname but I think he lives in North Lynn, somewhere near XXXXXXX Avenue. I don't know much about Colin other than the fact that he also lives at 13 XXXXXXX Avenue with Mark. I don't know much about Clifford but I think he also lives near to XXXXXXX Avenue. I think he still lives with his parents, but may be in the process of buying a place of his own, and I think he works in the building trade. On the Friday evening he was wearing a light coloured T shirt underneath a light coloured shirt, and. possibly jeans. He is quite tall and has short dark hair. I don't know Terry's surname, but I think he lives in Terrington. He is not as tall as the others, and on the Friday night he was wearing a navy top, which I think had either a pattern or picture on the front, and possibly jeans. Mark was wearing jeans and a white shirt, whilst Colin was wearing a tweed jacket over what I think was a shirt, and probably jeans. I had met all these when at a party at 13 XXXXXXAvenue, about 2 to 3 weeks ago. After having about four to five whisky and orange juices they asked Anne and I if we would like to go to the Cellar Bar with them I had only been to the Cellar Bar on one previous occasion and that was on the evening of the party. I am not sure what time we left the pub to go to the Cellar Bar but we all left together. I was not keeping a track of the time at all. I know we must have arrived at the Cellar Bar after 10.30 pm as we had to pay to get in, but it could have been a fair bit later than that. When we arrived at the Cellar Bar we walked down the stairs and into the entrance hallway. We had to queue for a short time to get in as there were other people in front of us waiting to pay to get in. The boys were in front of us and paid before us. We then paid our money to the two men standing there. These two men were both smartly dressed in suits, but I can't remember whether they were bouncers or not. I just paid my money to them and didn't really take that much notice of them. I followed the boys into the main part of the club which was packed, like sardines and then went straight to the bar. I bought myself and Anne another drink, having another whisky and orange myself. During the rest of the evening we moved about the club, and danced on the dance floor with Clifford and Terry. I also saw that the two twins Gary and Wayne, who I had also met at the party, were also in the club. I was also introduced to Clifford's sister, who was with one of the twins. I can't remember what her name was. The only other person who I knew who was in the Cellar Bar was a girl called Sue FOX. She was wearing either a flowered or patterned top, and I think black trousers. She had her hair tied back, and possibly in a french plait. I do not know where she lives, Clifford seemed to know her. I remember that at about 12.30 am. Anne asked me what the time was as she didn't want to stay late. A short while later, probably about 12.45 am. she asked one of the bar staff to order her a taxi which she did. Once the taxi had been ordered Anne went out and that was the last time I saw her that evening. Shortly after Anne had left I was standing with the group of boys against the bar, about opposite the disco, when there a loud crash. The place went quiet and possibly the music stopped or went low, and then the D.J. told us to carry on enjoying ourselves. I don't know what made the crash but I understand from the conversation immediately afterwards that a television had fallen from the wall. A short while after this, possibly a couple of minutes later I was still standing in the same place. I was leaning against the bar, with my back to the bar and Mark was standing next to me to my right and I think Terry was possibly in front of us. I saw that there was a scuffle near the main pillar and I saw that one man, who I assumed was one of the bouncers, had hold of another man against the pillar. He had hold just below the throat, I think with one hand, and it is possible he had the other fist raised. I would describe the man I think was a bouncer as being very well built, wearing either a white or light coloured shirt and smart dark possibly black trousers. I think his face was a little bit chubby. He had very short blonde or very light hair, which looked as if it had been shaved short. The other man, who was being held, was wearing a rugby type shirt, which was quartered, which was red and blue, and possibly another colour, and he was wearing jeans. He had light short hair and was of medium build. The man holding him said to him something like "Don't ever do that again." I assumed that this incident was something to do with the television. The man with the Rugby shirt on then left the club through the door, whilst the bouncer followed immediately behind as if to ensure that he left. As they went out of the door a lot of people went in the same direction as if to see what was happening, but I remained against the bar. A short while later we decided to leave and so finished our drinks and made our way out of the club. At this time I was still with Clifford, Mark, Colin, Terry and Jason. We walked out of the door and I saw that there people standing on the stairs and at the top of the stairs. I had to walk up the left hand side of the stairs, to get past the people who were just standing there. When I got to the top I again saw Sue FOX who was standing kissing a man. I didn't know the man but I think he was wearing a white shirt and possibly jeans or trousers. There were a few other people standing around, but there was nothing out of the ordinary happening. The whole group of us walked into the Tuesday Market Place and turned immediately right, and walked to Barclays Bank, where I got some money out of the machine. Whilst I was getting my money the five lads were just standing nearby talking. When I had got my money we all then walked diagonally across the Market Place and left the market place down the same road that the Tudor Rose is on. We walked on the pavement on the opposite side of the road to the Tudor Rose. I don't think we had quite reached the gravel car park although I could see it, when I heard the sound of somebody running behind us. I think I was standing near the back of the group but I can't remember who else from our group was also at the back. I turned round and saw the same man, who had been held against the post wearing the quartered rugby shirt, run past. We were standing on the pavement at the time whilst he was running in the road. Immediately behind him and very close to him, two men chasing after him. Both men were 6'0" tall or taller, well built and both had light hair. The hair of one of them was collar length and brush straight back to clear the ears, whilst the other one was just short. They were both wearing either white or very light long sleeved shirts and black or very dark trousers. The two men caught up with the other man about two to three metres in front of us. The man being chased spun round to face us and I think one of the other men had hold of his shirt. There was a brief struggle and then the man being chased managed to free himself. I did not see any injuries on the man being chased, but the other two who had been chasing him had their backs to me. The struggle only lasted a matter of seconds before the man struggled to free himself and run away. I think that the man then ran off across the car park in the direction of the Lattice House and the other two men followed. I have to say, however, that my view was restricted as I was at the back of the group and only being about 5'3" tall I could not really see where they ran to. I could then hear the sound of what I thought was a fight. As far as I remember I could hear the sounds of somebody either hitting or punching somebody else, and the groans of somebody in pain. These sounds came from the direction that the men had run in, in other words from the Lattice House direction. I did not actually see what was happening. I only heard the sounds I have described above. I then continued along the road, until reaching Chapel Street, where I turned left towards Norfolk Street. On turning the corner I saw one of the twins, the one wearing a coloured top, walking with Clifford's sister. Clifford left our group and walked across to join then. They were walking from the direction of Norfolk Street and were heading in the direction of Austin Street. We carried on walking along the pavement on the same side of the road as the Lattice House. We were almost outside the Lattice House and the group stopped and I saw on the pavement directly opposite us on the other side of the road the man who had been chased was lying on the pavement. He was lying on his back, with head just on the kerb, nearly into the road. There was blood on the road and all around his face. There were no other persons around; either walking away or towards. There were no vehicles around either, apart from possibly a car parked outside the taxi office further up Chapel Street. I could hear that the man lying on the pavement was breathing, but it was deep breathing and heavy and slow. He was obviously having difficulty breathing. Jason ran off in the direction of the taxi office, to get an ambulance. At this point I was crying because I found what I saw very upsetting. I think that either Mark or Colin asked the man lying on the pavement whether he was alright. Terry was meanwhile comforting me. Jason then returned, running, and stated the ambulance was on its way. He was followed by another man who had come from the direction of the taxi office. He was a coloured shirt, possibly mustard coloured, and trousers, maybe black, but dark in colour. He had a moustache and dark hair. This man asked whether an ambulance had been called and then with the assistance of Mark he put him in the recovery position. We carried on standing there, and then a taxi drew up and there was another man standing nearby. I don't know whether he had got out of the taxi, or then got into it. I then saw a police car come round the corner from Norfolk Street, into Chapel Street. One of the group I was with, possibly Mark ran towards the police car to attract their attention. The police car then pulled up to us and one of the officers got out of the car and bent down over the man lying on the pavement. I am not sure but I think the taxi had left by this time. I was paying more attention to what the policeman was doing, Mark spoke to the policeman and asked him if he wanted our names, but the policeman said he didn’t; we told him that the ambulance had been called. We then started to walk away in the direction of Norfolk Street on the same side of the road as the man had been lying. We were nearly opposite Surrey Street when I saw two men walking toward us. Both these men were of the same description as the two men I had seen chasing the other man earlier, they were of the same build and wearing the same clothes. In my mind they were the same two men who had been chasing him One of the men was slightly behind the other, and the one with the shorter hair was in front. I think the one behind, who had the longer hair, slowed down as he passed me, as he saw the police car ahead of him. The whole group stopped and may even have started walking back towards the police car. I think possibly Mark was still talking to the policeman. I then heard the man who was in front, the one with the shorter hair, shout something like "That’s one of the bastards, let’s get the other one". As he said that he then started to run towards St. Anne’s Street. The other man behind him started to run as well to catch him up, but I didn't hear him say anything. I then heard Mark say something like "That’s then, aren't you going to do anything." The police car than drove off after the two men, whilst one policeman remained with the man lying on the pavement. We then carried on walking down Norfolk Street. As we were walking down Norfolk Street I saw a car (I can't remember the type or colour) stop somewhere near Spoils. A man got out of the car and walked to the alleyway near Spoils, where he punched another man, the man who had been kissing Sue FOX. I didn't see where he hit him. I then heard her shouting and realised she was also there. The man who had been hit then walked down the alleyway and the man who had hit him got back into the car and drove off. I don't think Sue got into the car. We carried on walking and soon I saw the man who had been hit also walking down Norfolk Street. I think all the group I was with knew the man who had been hit and I think Terry spoke to him and asked if he was alright, we then walked to the taxi office in Norfolk Street, where we subsequently got a taxi to go to 13 xxxxxxx Avenue. Throughout the evening I had consumed about five or six whisky and oranges, and so although I was a little merry I was not drunk. I am slightly short sighted but when I go out I do not wear my glasses and I didn't have my glasses on, on the Friday night. Further to the above, I think the part where Mark asked the policeman whether he wanted our names came after the two men had gone past the policemen.

RE:- Terry Meierhofer

For those of you who are following this Blog with interest, it may be a good idea to start taking notes of the descriptions given by the witnesses who actually saw anything in relation to the actual assault on Tony Gorman. I will be doing it myself for you after I have presented all the eye witness accounts. If the King’s Lynn Police had done that and also used a time line with events they could be certain about perhaps they would of looked else where for the killers.
So to Terry Meierhofer’s statement. Well by his own admission he’s had at least 9 pints of lager. I can’t say how that may of affected his memory of events, or can I?
Well the next statement I will post is from a girl called Caroline Scott and although she wasn’t even mentioned in Meierhofer’s statement she did infact leave the Celler Bar with him and the other lads mentioned. They didn’t go the way described by Meierhofer:
“As a group we all walked to the Tuesday Market Place keeping to the left and walking straight to St. Nicholas Street. Once in St. Nicholas Street we started crossing the road by Ward Gethin solicitors and as we did I saw GORMAN”
They actually turned right at the Market Place and walked to Barclay’s Bank where Caroline Scott got some money out (that transaction was timed by the bank ) before walking diagonally back across the Market Place towards St. Nicholas St. That’s just one indication that his memory wasn’t that good.
Another is :- “I believe that I would, recognise both of these men again. Upon reaching Chapel Street, they turned right and I lost view of them behind a building.”
According to the other witnesses they ran across the gravel car park in FRONT of the building Meierhofer is talking about
He correctly describes Gorman as about 5’8” tall and he correctly describes the man who put Gorman in the recovery position as about 5’ 8” tall. His description of the attackers is as follows:
1) Stocky build, 5'8" tall, short fair hair, wearing a white shirt and black trousers. I believe that it was the bouncer who thrown GORMAN out of the Cellar Bar earlier.
2) Medium build, 5'10" tall, dark brown curly hair that appeared to be permed, wearing a light casual shirt and probably trousers.
So if Meierhofer is to be believed and I am infact the 1st attacker, apart from the fact I am 6’ 2” a good 6” taller than Gorman, who the fuck is the second one because it doesn’t match either Rod or Karl. Rod is 6’ with straight blond hair and Karl about 5’ 8” with straight light brown hair. Again no mention of my shirt been covered in blood which is something that should of stuck out in anybodys memory if they had infact seen me there. He does mention it when he sees me run past the body. Another thing that is strange to me is how he describes it:
“One of the policemen was bent down kneeling over GORMAN and the other stayed by the police car. Whilst the policeman knelt over GORMAN the bouncer who had ejected GORMAN came back again, running from the direction of the taxi office. He approached from behind me he stopped briefly and looked at GORMAN saying, "That's one of the bastards" before running off towards the Church”
Surely if he had been right earlier he would of said the bouncer who I saw chase Gorman down St Nicholas street.
This investigation stinks and I hope your starting to smell it too. Gary Sewell the friend of the deceased who spoke to the attackers immediately before the attack doesn’t describe or even mention me. Gary Daw and Shelley Mitchelson the 2 people who came closest and had the best view don’t mention or describe me. So now how come all of a sudden is it now someone in a white shirt and black trousers? It really just doesn’t add up. Like I said earlier keep a note of all the descriptions and compare them against each other, it will be interesting. For your information although he states he would recognise the two men again, he didn’t pick me, Rod or Karl out on the ID parade 2 days later. He did infact pick out a dark haired lad who had nothing to do with the inquiry.

I am the above named person and I live at the address shown overleaf. I live there with my father. I am employed as a factory operative working for British Sugar at the King’s Lynn factory. For the past eight and half months I was going out with a girl called Lisa BURRELL who lives at 69 Bishops Road, Gaywood. She finished with me about two weeks ago and Mark BRANHAM, who I used to work with, asked me out for a few drinks. Friday, 1st March 1991 was the third time I had been out drinking with Mark and his friends. At about 8 pm on Friday, 1st March 1991, I went to Mark BRANHAM’s house which is in Newlands Avenue, King's Lynn. There I met one of Mark's friends called Jason. I do not know his surname or where he lives, Mark was wearing a white casual shirt and denim jeans and Jason was wearing a dark cardigan, sports T shirt and denim jeans. We all took a taxi to the Tuesday Market Place, where we went Into the Maydens Head Public House. There we met Cliff, I don't know his surname or address but he was wearing casual clothes, and one of the DAW twins who wore a pair of trousers and a casual shirt. Also in the taxi with us was Colin, another of Mark's friends whose surname I don't know. Colin wore a greybrown suit with a casual shirt underneath. Whilst in the Mayden's Head public house I had one pint of Carlsberg lager, before we left to go to the Globe public house where I had 1 pint of lager. From there we went to Wenn's and the Lattice House public houses having one pint in each, before arriving at Chicago's public house where I had two or three pints. At about 11 pm that evening, before closing time, we all left and went to the Cellar Bar in Paige Staithe Lane, arriving between 11.15 and 11.30 pm. We paid about £1.00 entry fee and once inside we all stood together at the centre of the large bar. Whilst in the Cellar Bar I had two more pints of beer and spent the time talking with my friends and having a couple of dances. Between 12.30 pm and 1.00am my attention was drawn to a disturbance to my left. I saw one of the bouncers, whose name I don't know, but I realised he was a bouncer because he was dressed in black trousers and a white shirt and he conducted himself in the manner of a bouncer, he was taking another man out the bar holding him by the back of the neck. The man he was taking out was 5'8" tall, with short fair hair almost in a crew cut, stocky build, wearing a rugby shirt which had four quarters of different colours. In hindsight, I now know the person who was ejected to be the person who was killed in Chapel Street, who I now know to be Tony GORMAN. I couldn't tell if GORMAN was with anyone.
I carried on enjoying myself until the disco finished and the main lights were put on. It was about 1.00 am I left the Cellar Bar together with my friends Cliff, Mark, Colin and Jason. As we walked up the steps to Page Staithe Lane I saw GORMAN stood on the right hand side of the steps at the top, leaning against the wall. He was talking to someone who I didn't recognise and seemed quite calm. I couldn't describe the people he was talking to. As a group we all walked to the Tuesday Market Place keeping to the left and walking straight to St. Nicholas Street. Once in St. Nicholas Street we started crossing the road by Ward Gethin solicitors and as we did I saw GORMAN run past us towards Chapel Street. He was pursued by two men at least. I would describe the two men as follows:-

I believe that I would, recognise both of these men again. Upon reaching Chapel Street, they turned right and I lost view of them behind a building. As we reached the gravel car park I looked across outside the council offices I could see one person kicking out. I couldn't see what he was kicking. The lighting wasn't very good across the car park and all I could really see was the outline of this person kicking out. We walked up to the junction with Chapel Street and turned right into Chapel Street. I could see the body of GORMAN lying on the road. I walked to the body, together with Mark, Jason and Colin. When I reached it I saw that it was Tony GORMAN he lay on his back, his waist downwards on the footpath and above his waist on the road, immediately outside the council offices. I saw and heard that GORMAN was breathing strangely. We sent Jason down to the Phoenix taxi office to call an ambulance and as he went a man and a woman ran down the road to us. The man, who was about 5'8" tall with permed dark hair and a dark moustache, wearing casual clothes, said, "Leave it to me, I know what to do." He placed GORMAN into the recovery position on his side and we waited for the ambulance, within a short space of time a police car arrived. One of the policemen was bent down kneeling over GORMAN and the other stayed by the police car. Whilst the policeman knelt over GORMAN the bouncer who had ejected GORMAN came back again, running from the direction of the taxi office. He approached from behind me he stopped briefly and looked at GORMAN saying, "That's one of the bastards" before running off towards the Church. I didn't see exactly where he went. Shortly afterwards another man came running towards us from the direction of the taxi office. He ran straight past us in the same direction as the first bouncer. This man was dressed in a white shirt; he was over 5'10", medium build, running down St. Ann's Street out of sight. As he ran past he seemed to be panicking, he said something like, "That's alright, that's alright." The Police officer, by the car, drove after those two men, and the policeman next to GORMAN told us we could go. We all walked to the taxi office in Norfolk Street, where I believe we took a taxi back to Mark's house where I stayed the night. When I saw GORMAN lying on the ground, before he was turned over, I saw his face covered with blood, with a puddle of blood next to his head on the road. When I saw the bouncer on the last occasion coming up Chapel Street from the direction of the taxi office, and stopped nearby us to make his comment, I noticed that he had blood on his face and on his shirt.

Work in progress

For those of you who have read everything to date, please be patient as I am trying to post the statements all at once of the group of people who witnessed the chase and assault. It may take a couple of days but rest assured I am working on it
